Customer Spotlight: Infinilux

With Cloud ERP, Infinilux Puts Light On Manufacturing | Devesh Patel, Manager, Infinilux

Infinilux is a company based in Southern California that designs and manufactures solid state light fixtures. We believe that the proper applications of solid state lighting (SSL) technologies are making innovative strides that will forever alter the way we banish darkness, decorate our public spaces and create comfortable human environments and life-spaces. The implications are staggering. Longer life, lower energy consumption and a viable environmentally friendly alternative to the "light bulb" is here and worldwide acceptance is on the near horizon. Thus, our primary mission is to create energy efficient solid state fixtures that will replace costly inefficient traditional lighting. The leadership team has over 50 years of combined experience in the light emitting diode (LED) indication and lighting industries.

With this in mind, we knew that our ERP system would be a vital element in helping us achieve our goals. Our initial legacy ERP system was "pieced together" from modules selected primarily for their "low cost." As a start up, it was critical to operate on a shoestring, with our primary efforts focused on precise, quality product design and efficient manufacturing processes. As we successfully matured and proved the market appeal for our products, it became critical for our operational tools, including our ERP, to become world class as well. The quality and timeliness of our information and responsiveness had become as important as the quality of our products.

Thus, as our business kept expanding, we ultimately outgrew our legacy ERP system. We wanted an ERP that would help us produce increased product quality and faster speed to market, plus we knew that it needed to be on the Cloud. Such a solution would improve our quality process, maintain better communications with customers and get product built and shipped faster. With our manufacturing overseas, only the Cloud would let us share information in real time. With a Cloud ERP, we would be able to leverage the Internet and work efficiently with vendors and customers, no matter where in the world we all are.

Plus, having our ERP on the Cloud would eliminate the need for an internal server and all the infrastructure headaches that it creates. Since Rootstock has a good user interface and makes running an ERP in a manufacturing environment much easier, we selected them. Today, we access Rootstock Cloud ERP via a web browser or mobile app while the software and Infinilux data are stored on the provider’s servers at a remote location. In addition, with the ERP system hosted centrally, updates can be released without the need for us to install new software.

Having the vendor manage the system on the Cloud instantly relieved our tech staff of maintaining and supporting a local server. Those resources are now dedicated to our core expertise and desire which is designing high quality, precisely engineered, true SSL fixtures that greatly benefit our customers and the environment at large. The greater information harnessing power of this Cloud ERP over our previous system(s) enhances our ability to detect changing market patterns more proactively and allows us to react to those conditions with less energy and cost expended.

Modules Selected

We implemented modules for MRP, Purchasing, Inventory, Engineering BOM (Bills of Material), Sales and Standard Costing.

MRP uses information from Sales Order Management to drive the top level demands. Forecast demands, not only end items but any item, can be entered as well. A forecast demand for an item denotes the start period date and the end period date and the quantity forecasted for that period. MRP performs the traditional "netting" and plan to the greater of the Sales Order Demand and Forecast demand (by period).

The MRP Engine always uses the "effective" Bill of Material in its plan. It accomplishes this by reviewing the scheduled pick dates of the planned work order supplies or planned subcontract requisition supplies and using that date to extract the components that are "effective" and "implemented" as of that date in the generation of the work order and subcontract requisition demands.

Purchase Order Management provides for the entry and tracking of purchase orders for direct and indirect materials and services. This is supported throughout the entire purchasing process, from generation of the requisition through receiving of materials or approval of service provided including accounts payable integration. The module also maintains all vendor information and reporting required by buying organizations to make better-informed purchasing decisions.

Manufacturing or subcontract assemblies are identified within Bill of Material Maintenance. Each component contains a separate record and standard information associating the component to the assembly can be kept on the Bill of Material. Required information such as the quantity per assembly and the add and delete effectively data is maintained on each component link. Required Add and Delete Effectively information includes status and date with optional information including revision and engineering change order. Additional capabilities include a scrap factor, "issue to" work centers on the Shop Floor and lead time offset for planning purposes. Bills of Material are also used in a Standard Cost Rollup to compute the material cost and the subcontract material cost of the purchased (or subcontract purchased) item.

Results So Far Are Good

We are only at the very early stage of implementing our Cloud ERP and are already garnering tangible benefits. Our perception of, and early experience, is that it is "designed to grow" with our business. As a small organization personnel-wise, it is necessary for us to utilize tools that leverage our actions to greater results than a core group would typically have. The flexibility of tools and functional selections within our Cloud ERP system enables us to quote and close more effectively from a sales perspective. Enabled and enhanced execution will validate our customers’ expectations of Infinilux products and operation.

We are only at the very early edge of implementing our Cloud ERP and already garnering tangible benefits.

Having Cloud ERP has let us more intelligently utilize the data that we have with significantly reduced time and labor consumed doing so. We are able to adapt to changing demand environments more expeditiously and with greater flexibility. This cascades into savings for us by adjusting source material flow to the correct, necessary "mix" rather than locking our capital on to materials we thought that we would need.

We are a very new user and learning as we go. Therefore, we can only express our initial satisfaction and optimism based upon early experience. That experience to date has been very positive and expertly supported by the Rootstock staff, who are knowledgeable not only on their specific products but also possess the pragmatic knowledge of real-world use. They have been really patient with us, answering all of our questions. They were also very upfront about pricing. Realizing that we are a growing company, they have been very flexible.

We fully anticipate that our transition to full use dialogue and support knowledge will continue to be of the same quality as we have received so far.

Press Release

Infinilux - "Rootstock Cloud ERP Gives Us the Best Bang for the Buck in the Market"

Infinilux Insistent that new ERP be on the Cloud

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – March 24, 2015 – Rootstock Software®, the leader in cloud manufacturing and supply chain applications, today announced that Infinilux (Commerce, Calif.), a solid state lighting company that focuses on the design and manufacture of quality LED lighting products, has selected Rootstock's cloud ERP to improve its quality process, maintain better communications with customers and get product built and shipped faster.

"As our business kept expanding, we ultimately outgrew our legacy ERP system," reports Devesh Patel, manager, Infinilux. "In our search for a new manufacturing ERP, we discovered that Rootstock Cloud ERP gave us the best bang for the buck in the market. It provides the results we wanted from an ERP such as increased product quality and faster speed to market and it is also on the Cloud. We also manufacture overseas so now we can share information in real time. As a result, we are able to leverage the Internet and work efficiently with vendors and customers, no matter where in the world we are.

"There was another reason that it was absolutely imperative that our new ERP be on the Cloud," adds Patel. "We didn't want to deal with an internal server and all the infrastructure headaches that it creates. Rootstock has a good user interface and it makes running an ERP much easier."

"Instead of having to manage the infrastructure and platform upon which the Rootstock ERP software suite runs, the cloud provider does it for them," emphasizes Pat Garrehy, CEO, Rootstock Software. "Infinilux accesses Rootstock Cloud ERP via a web browser or mobile app while the software and Infinilux data are stored on the provider’s servers at a remote location. In addition, with the ERP system hosted centrally, updates can be released without the need for Infinilux themselves to install new software."

"In addition to the product itself, the people we have worked with at Rootstock are really good," says Patel. "They have been really patient with us, answering all of our questions. They were also very upfront about pricing. Realizing that we are a growing company, they have been very flexible."
