Metal Shark Boats Docks at Rootstock for Cloud ERP

Formed only 8 Years Ago, $35 Million Brand
Required More Robust Enterprise Class Software to Increase Efficiencies

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – August 28, 2013 – Rootstock Software®, the leader in cloud manufacturing and supply chain applications, today announced that Metal Shark (Jeanerette, LA.), leading supplier of aluminum-built commercial, military and government boats, has chosen Rootstock’s Cloud ERP to help run its highly automated manufacturing processes and increase efficiencies. Metal Shark’s rapid growth, including expansion to an additional facility, precipitated the need to move to a more robust enterprise class of software.

“Our goal is to build a great boat at the best value to our customers. Our plant manufactures increasingly complex vessels in extremely tight timeframes with a high degree of automation, requiring precise controls and planning,” explains Chris Allard, Metal Shark CEO. “Rootstock’s Cloud ERP provides the sophisticated manufacturing functionality we require and their MRP engine is the best we’ve seen.”

“Salesforce.com customers and users want solutions that hook into their presently installed software,” emphasizes Patrick Garrehy, CEO and Founder of Rootstock Software. “But, that’s not enough. They need a Cloud ERP that also provides the integrity, robust performance and flexibilities that traditional ERP provides. Our management team has over 160 man-years in developing such suites. We understand how a company like Metal Shark needs ready access to parts orders and warranty information to provide the best possible post-sales experience for their customers.”

Rootstock Material Requirements Planning (MRP) uses information from Sales Order Management to drive the top level demands. Forecast demands, not only for end items but any item and by project, can be entered as well. A forecast demand for an item denotes the start period date and the end period date and the quantity forecasted for that period. MRP also performs the traditional ‘netting’ and plans to the greater of the Sales Order Demand and Forecast demand by period. The Project Control capabilities of Rootstock were especially appealing to Metal Shark since they have government contracts. Additionally, the multi-tiered serial tracking, provides an indented bill of material, a serial view of an ‘As Built’ versus ‘As Maintained.’
